If you can't find it in the maps folder via Windows Explorer (as your post seems to suggest), then the first thing to do is to double check where you're actually saving the map; if you can't find the map manually in the maps folder then it's no surprise that HOMM3 isn't able to find it there.

Jun 24, 2010 · In the Compatibility tab, I picked "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". After it installs, go to C:\Program Files\3DO\Heroes 3 Complete. Do the same thing (Windows XP SP2 Compatiblity) for ALL executables in that folder. There are a bunch of them. If you don't do it for all of them, the program will crash occasionally.

You start with Heroes Chronicles, the campaigns are a prequel to HOMM3 and they're a great way to get you into the games since the campaigns are slightly easier than 3. This CAN be skipped but I recommend it solely because the protagonist is great and I enjoyed how connected the campaigns are.

Of the three campaigns, The Restoration of Erathia is the easiest, followed by Armageddon’s Blade, and lastly Shadow of Death is by far the hardest as the difficulty can be adjusted to Impossible. I would advise playing them in that order, even though chronologically it’s inconsistent with the lore.
